Not a reference EQ curve. Excursion models a small driver running out of travel, the protection DSP in front of it, and the room it plays into — with a playback level control that changes the sound rather than the volume.

Why it exists

Every mix-reference plugin on the market is a static filter. It does the same thing to your track at any level. A real small speaker distorts because it is loud, and a snapshot measured once at one level has no way to know that.

Turn the level up here and the cone runs out of travel, the suspension stiffens, the resonance climbs, the protection DSP pulls the low corner up to save the driver, and the bass leaves — the same way it does on the actual device, for the same reason.

What is actually happening

01 — Protection

The limiter sits in front of the driver, not behind it

A high pass whose corner sweeps upward as the cone approaches its limit, plus a three-band limiter over Linkwitz-Riley crossovers. It is placed ahead of the driver model because that is where it sits in a real device: it is trying to prevent the excursion, not react to it. On Pocket the corner rests at 230 Hz and is pushed to 720 Hz at the limit.

02 — Driver

A cone with mass, a suspension that stiffens, a motor that droops

x′′ + Rms x′ + Kms(x) x = Bl(x) i, integrated at four times the sample rate. Progressive suspension stiffness, force-factor droop, and a small asymmetry that puts real second harmonic in the result. The output is cone acceleration, because acceleration is what radiates. At low level the model is a second-order high pass at the driver resonance, verified against the analytic transfer to within 0.09 dB.

03 — Room

Port noise, image collapse, and the sound of the place

Turbulent port noise gated on cone velocity rather than on level, which is why it appears on one sustained low note and not on a loud snare. Then a four-line feedback delay network per situation, image collapse and crosstalk between drivers a few centimetres apart, and an ambient bed — road, room tone, crowd — that tracks the playback level.

No situation is a real product, no voicing is sampled from hardware, and no trademark appears in the code, the interface, the presets or this page. Every voicing is generated.
