01
Model the mechanism, not the result
An imitation of an artifact only holds at the setting it was tuned at. A model of the thing that causes the artifact holds everywhere, including at settings nobody thought to check. It costs more to build once and stops being wrong afterwards.
02
Every number on this site came out of a test
Latency is measured by cross-correlation against the figure reported to the host. Transparency is measured in dB. CPU is measured as a share of one core. If a suite prints a number, that number goes on the page — and if it moves, the page moves with it.
03
No framework we do not control
Everything is built on the DISTRHO Plugin Framework: ISC licensed, no revenue cap, no EULA, clean-room VST3 headers so no third-party licensing attaches. The DSP and the editors are written from scratch. Nothing here can be repriced or withdrawn by a supplier.
04
The legal position is designed in, not argued afterwards
No plugin here is named after, measured from, or matched to anything anybody sells. No published bitstream format is implemented. Excursion's test suite fails the build if a trademark reaches a preset name — the constraint is enforced by machine, because a constraint that depends on remembering is not one.
